I am going to start posting some good and inspiring adverts as I come across them. I have a few in mind but I came across this one this evening and wanted to share it with you. Watch this space as there will soon be a more in depth post on this fine liquid.

Just a Wee Dram: Down South

I had the privileged of having dinner at a little food bar called Down South in Long Street, Cape Town. I must say it was a wonderful experience. Their aim is to bring the New Orleans experience to Cape Town and the menu is small but tasty. You get Ribs, Prawns, Beer and Bourbon.
The main reason for this post is to tell you about my brief experience with Jack Daniels Gentleman Jack. I will first however dive into my wonderful dining experience at this venue.

Johhnie Walker Red Label

What a treat this blend is. I thoroughly enjoy drinking Johnnie Walker Red Label, and it is one of those that I enjoy mixed too. JWRL and ginger ale would be my mix of choice. It is a great way for 'new' whisky drinkers to try a scotch that isn't too overpowering but you still pick up the smokiness of the whisky.
Johnnie Walker Red is the first in the famous House of Walker range. Next being the benchmark of all 12yo blended whiskies, Johnnie Walker Black Label, Green Label, Gold Label and finally Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

Being a blended whisky, it constitutes a blend of approximately 35 grain and malt whiskies with the lead malt being Talisker. Talisker is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye and is quite peaty for a non-Islay single malt. You pick this up in Johnnie Walker Red Label which is pretty much why I enjoy it so much. Red Label is produced to be mixed but is fantastic on its own. Try it and experiment with a few mixers of your choice, perhaps in a cocktail such as the Rusty Nail.

My Whisk(e)y Life and journey so far...

Right, if I had to rate my age as a whisk(e)y drinker right now it would be a 2 year old toddler.
I am walking and talking.I kind of know what is going on. I know what I like and don't like but when I find something new that interests me, I am completely engrossed in it for hours and hours and just can't get enough.

I have been drinking whiskey for a few years now but have really got interested in it over the past 3 years. I have gone from only drinking Irish Whiskeys with mixers too thoroughly enjoying a fine peaty single malt Scotch whisky. Don't get me wrong, there are still occasions for a whisk(e)y and mix as well as on the rocks. The best advice I ever heard, ironically whilst I was doing my introduction to wine course was, Drink it how YOU enjoy it. The bottom line is that I LOVE THE STUFF!

I am looking forward to sharing all my experiences and hearing from you too about your experiences and thoughts.
